Last days of autumn

Last days of autumn

I wanted to show that ceramics can also be seasonal. Of course the Christmas hangers should already have given that away… but this turned out to be a proper autumn project. The kids picked some nice leaves from our garden and we rolled out some clay on the table. We pressed the leaves in and took some cookie cutters to cut nice clean circles. After they had dried a bit, we took the leaves off and a beautiful imprint was left behind. I fired the lot and after this first firing I took some iron oxide and brushed it in the imprints. The spillage I sponged off and brushed some transparent glaze on top. A final firing at 1260 C and the end result was perfect! Now we now which leaves work the nicest (for next year) : oak, vern, and lemon balm (citroenmelisse)

By the way: they are tea bag rests 🙂
