My first commissioned work was a set of tea mugs, made from stoneware speckled clay with an earthy green glaze inside and on the rim. The day after I had a serious muscle ache from all the sanding these unglazed pieces require…  In my previous career as a graphic designer, I only worked on commission. As a ceramist it is a lovely thing to make your own work, of course you want others to like it as well, but primarily the inspiration comes form you and in my case, the world around me. But it was lovely to get a commission! Besides the fact that people trust me to make something nice (which is great!) , it is a real learning experience. I have to come with a finished product, exactly as was discussed. So if something turns out differently on the wheel, I have to start again. The challenge in this case was making a set of teamugs. Yes, all the same 😉 A challenge indeed, but I managed and they all survived in the kiln, so I could hand them over to a happy customer. This glaze was developed by Nootenzo.
